Surry Hills, Palma (5★)

Back to blog

In the heart of Palma city centre, tucked away in a small pedestrian street you'll find the unassuming corner coffee shop Surry Hills. A light, airy space with plenty of plants, wood, a carefully selected neon sign and some traditional tiles that seem to have been there since it was built. The cafe is welcoming, warm, and the staff carry the theme throughout with great service and a smile. Australian hospitality has arrived in Palma, and we can't get enough.

Surry Hills Cafe, Palma - Inside

"We went to Australia and just fell in love with coffee... So we started to learn and became obsessed.. We just love it, and so we opened in Mallorca in 2021 and have never looked back."

Coffee & Cake

Great coffee supplied by local roasters Mistral, and pulled through a LaMarzocco espresso machine provides a pretty fantastic flat white. The selection of cakes was equally outstanding - the Albajar de Almendraz finding a new home in my very happy face. We also cannot recommend the wider food menu enough, as the Salmon and dill poached egg was just one of the dishes that blew us away.

Bike Friendly?

Whilst not a cycling dedicated cafe, it's definitely bike friendly! The team were so welcoming, and the bike hooks outside make good use of the space.

Service at Surry Hills

Really great. Where ever you go and what ever you are doing, you just can't beat a welcome smile & a hello when you walk through the door. The team here are happy, friendly and up for a bit of a laugh. We were offered our choice of table or takeaway, provided menus, had a coffee in our hands within a few minutes and had a great chat throughout. They say you should spend your day with people who radiate positivity - and these guys make me want to live at Surry Hills!

Location

In the centre of Palma Surry Hills is a 5-10 minute walk from anywhere in the city, so if you're in town it's another must visit. If like us you're based on the East coast of the island (or even central) it's a great opportunity to get the train into town & stop there for a warm brunch, before riding back across the island. This is an absolute gem for a great day out.

Summary for Surry Hills, Palma

A top scoring, brilliant coffee shop with a warm and friendly team who love what they do. Drop in for a coffee, eat cake and enjoy the positive vibes.

When we first opened the Mallorca Clubhouse we had to do rather a lot of trips to Palma - and we only wish that we had found Surry Hills sooner. Having somewhere quiet & welcoming, where we knew we could decompress and sort our plans for the afternoon was an absolute blessing. Wandering through the sea of tourist shops, bustling crowds and chaotic markets - Surry Hills have managed to create a local village vibe. Doing so whilst providing coffee and service akin to the famous London Coffee houses is seriously impressive, and we would say an oasis in the midst of Palma City.

We love it here, and we will be back soon. In the mean time we are planning a new route for the Mallorca Guide - catching the train from Sa Pobla, breakfast with Surry Hills and then following one of the Ineos routes back to Alcudia... So watch this space!

Quick note on the review process

We find the cafe's on our cycling adventures or we're directed to them by friends. From there we rock up on the bike, order coffee, soak up the vibe and speak with the staff. Once we've been there 4/5 times we'll write the review.
