Sineu is smack bang in the middle of the island, and this mediterranean vibe coffee house is something of a delight. With speciality coffee, a sunny terrace and a regulars list that includes Wout Van Aert, this boutique cafe stop in Mallorca is something to tell your friends about.

The small village of Sineu is nestled in the rolling flats of central Mallorca, and it's where you'll find this special coffee stop set back from the main road with a south facing terrace. The site used to be a flower mill, but today this historic building is home to the Sa Mola 13 Team and their unique coffee chic vibes. The owners Jan & Janna come from racing pedigree, and their wide cycling network in Germany mean they often receive visits from the likes of Jumbo Lease a Bike, Canyon & Ryzon. Walking into the courtyard from the street you'll immediately spot the bike racks and sun sails, with high table seating and tall windows giving you a glimpse inside. Step through the door and a double height ceiling opens up to an impressive space, filled with yellow velvet chairs, artisan tiles and a Rocket Espresso machine perched on the counter. We all know that sunlight and space are the key to amazing spaces, and this cafe has buckets of both,

Coffee & Cake

The Rocket Espresso Doppia greets you by the door as soon as you walk in, and chatting with Jan about the blends will instantly assure you that you are in good hands. This isn't just a cafe for Jan, it's the manifestation of his passion for coffee. Speaking of which, the coffee comes from the excellent Innefable Coffee Roasters in Seville (mainland), and the flat white has delivered delightfully time and time again. Extra points awarded for very desirable mugs adorned with the cafe's gold logo. If you are feeling adventurous on a hot day, go for the coffee & tonic to refresh the senses!

Turning to the all important cake department - the carrot cake and banana bread are proven winners, and we have the chocolate loaf on the target list for next time. Bravo sir.

Bike Friendly?

With over 10 years of servicing cyclists on the island, you only have to take a look around the cliental to understand that cycling runs deep in the veins of this business. Big bike racks out the front, and a Ryzon pop up in the mezzanine floor tell you all you need to know. The coveted fifth star awarded with the discovery of wifi & a track pump!

Service

With Jan and Janna often on site and a solid team built around them, service is expectedly on-point. We actually popped with some new club members a few days before writing this, and we had a very smiley waitress serve us at the table (outside) within a minute of sitting down.

Location

Sa Mola, Sineu is bang in the middle of the island and a very pleasant hour or so ride from the coast in any direction. Likewise the Tramuntana mountains are about the same distance to the north. For anyone staying near the Clubhouse in Alcudia it's the perfect coffee ride away, with a round trip being complete in about 2 hours (plus stopping time). Local roads are amazingly smooth, with rolling hills and surprisingly green fields through spring. It's also worth flagging the windmill which you'll pass when entering Sineu from the North East, which is just brilliant.

Also good to know...

Sa Mola 13 has a brother (or sister) in the form of a shared living house just down the road! It's specifically designed around cyclists, and you can book any of the beds for individuals or groups. Check out the website for some great photos, availability & booking.

Summary for Sa Mola 13, Sineu

Sa Mola is a delight, with coffee and experience clearly at the heart of the business. Whilst steeped in cycling pedigree, cycling memorabilia has been restrained in favour of a touch of glamour & a boutique luxury feel. A chesterfield leather sofa, blue velvet chairs and wicker tables sit on restored stone floors beneath vaulted windows with a penny farthing hanging on the wall. Amongst a sea of often tired Mallorca buildings, Sa Mola is a welcome tonic of luxury and simplicity that would be equally at home in the millionaire high streets of Kensington and Chelsea. The coffee is also some of the very best on the island.

Quick note on the review process

We find the cafes on our cycling adventures or we're directed to them by friends. From there we rock up on the bike, order coffee, soak up the vibe and speak with the staff. Once we've been there 4/5 times we'll write the review.
